Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasizes the urgent need for the expansion of Lucknow Metro to meet the growing demands of the capital city. During a significant meeting on Tuesday, the Chief Minister reviewed the metro projects in Lucknow, Agra, and Kanpur, highlighting the interest of the private sector in collaborating on the expansion of metro services.
In order to facilitate the expansion, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued several guidelines during the meeting. He instructed officials to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a new metro route from Charbagh to Vasant Kunj via Chowk in Lucknow. Suitability tests for both underground and elevated metro services should be conducted, followed by the timely submission of proposals. This new phase of expansion aims to connect a large population with modern urban transport facilities.
The Chief Minister also emphasized extending the existing Lucknow Metro to the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) on one side and Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) on the other. Encouraged by the enthusiasm of numerous private sector companies, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath suggested considering the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model for this expansion.
Furthermore, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stressed the importance of promoting commercial activities within the Metro Rail complex. He emphasized the need for concrete arrangements to enhance passenger services and security.
Regarding safety measures, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath insisted on ensuring all necessary precautions during the construction of underground metro projects. Strict adherence to safety standards is crucial.
The ongoing metro projects in Kanpur and Agra were also discussed during the meeting. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath assured that there would be no shortage of funds for any public interest projects. He urged officials to release funds on time and complete the projects within the stipulated timeframes through effective communication and coordination.
In line with promoting sustainable transportation, the Chief Minister encouraged the use of electric buses and e-rickshaws in Gautam Buddha Nagar and 17 municipal corporations.
