Uttar Pradesh CM Takes Stock of Flood Prevention Preparations in Gonda

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Gonda on Saturday to assess the preparations for flood prevention in the region. Adityanath inspected the embankments of the Ghaghra-Saryu river and provided instructions to officials regarding precautionary measures.

During his visit, the Chief Minister examined the embankments near the Bhikharipur Sikraur and Algin Charsari areas. He also held a meeting with public representatives and officials to discuss flood prevention strategies and guidelines.

Adityanath highlighted that Gonda faces floods almost every year due to the presence of major embankments. Although the district has experienced less rainfall than normal, heavy rains in Uttarakhand and Nepal have resulted in increased water levels in the Saryu and Rapti rivers.

Currently, the Saryu river is discharging 2.5 lakh cusecs of water, compared to the usual 40,000 cusecs. The Chief Minister stated that there is a possibility of further increases in water levels, requiring preventive measures to be taken on time. He emphasized that comprehensive actions have been implemented to protect the embankments and prevent loss of life.

To address potential flood situations, the government has established 28 flood outposts in coordination with the Health Department and the Relief Commissioner’s Department. The district administration has also completed preparations to send boats and relief materials to affected areas during floods.

Adityanath urged public representatives and administrative officers to avoid negligence when assisting flood-affected individuals. He instructed officials to ensure proper arrangements for living and food in relief camps. Additionally, mobile medical teams should remain active in affected areas, equipped with necessary medications for snake bites and other poisonous animal bites.

Maintaining cleanliness and adequate lighting in relief camps, as well as cleaning affected areas and repairing damaged roads and streets after the floodwaters recede, were also emphasized by the Chief Minister.

State Jal Shakti Minister Swatantradev Singh and other public representatives and administrative officers were present during the meeting.

In conclusion, CM Yogi Adityanath’s visit to Gonda aimed to evaluate flood prevention measures and provide necessary instructions to officials. With the government’s comprehensive preparations, including the establishment of flood outposts and mobilization of relief materials, Uttar Pradesh is prepared to face any potential flood situation.
