USA to Host ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 with Dallas, Florida, and New York as Venues
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially confirmed that the USA will be the host country for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2024. This historic event will be held in Dallas, Florida, and New York, marking the first time the tournament will take place in America.
The decision to allocate the hosting rights to the West Indies and the USA was made by the ICC Board in November 2021. After an extensive evaluation process, the venues were chosen to ensure the best possible experience for players and spectators alike.
Among the selected venues, a 34,000-seat modular stadium will be constructed in Eisenhower Park, located in Nassau County, New York. This purpose-built sports and events park will provide a top-notch facility for the tournament, pending the issuance of the required permit next month. In addition, the existing stadiums in Grand Prairie, Dallas, and Broward County, Florida, will be expanded using modular stadium solutions to accommodate larger crowds, media coverage, and premium hospitality areas.
ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice expressed his excitement, stating that the USA is a strategically important market, and hosting the T20 World Cup in these prominent venues presents an excellent opportunity to make a statement in the world’s largest sports market. He also mentioned that the ICC explored various options across the country, and the enthusiasm displayed by prospective hosts highlighted the growing awareness and fanbase for cricket in the USA.
Allardice further added that the use of modular stadium technology will allow for the presentation of world-class cricket in a location that has not previously hosted an ICC global event. This technology has been successfully utilized in the past to increase venue capacity and is widely employed in other major sports worldwide. By implementing it in the USA, the venues in Dallas and Florida will be expanded, while the new stadium in New York is expected to be a stunning addition to the cricket landscape.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman expressed his delight at partnering with the ICC to host the Men’s T20 World Cup in Eisenhower Park. With a fanbase of over one billion worldwide, this highly popular sporting event is anticipated to attract spectators from around the globe. Given Nassau County’s history of hosting large-scale events such as PGA tournaments, record-breaking concerts, and the Belmont Stakes, Blakeman is confident in the county’s ability to bring together diverse communities for the world-class cricket tournament.
Several other venues in the USA, including George Mason University in Washington, have also been identified as potential locations for pre-event matches and training.
In summary, the USA’s selection as the host for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 and the designation of Dallas, Florida, and New York as venues marks a significant milestone for cricket in America. The anticipation is high as cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the opportunity to witness top-level cricket in these world-class stadiums.
