The US Coastguard has turned down an offer of help from UK company Magellan Limited to find the lost Titanic submarine. Experts have said that the British company’s services would be the “best hope” of rescuing the five onboard, who are expected to run out of oxygen at about 10am on Thursday UK time. The deep-sea submersible can reach depths of 6,000 metres and has previous experience of visiting the Titanic wreckage site. The Coastguard has cited the vessel’s distance from the search site as the reason for its refusal. However, experts suggest that Magellan’s vessel could still reach the Titanic before time runs out. The stranded five include British billionaire explorer Hamish Harding and French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet. The latter is a member of The Explorers Club, which has pleaded with the US government to deploy “the ROV with the most experience at the Titanic site and possibly the best hope for a rescue”.
