The US and India have launched the India-US Defense Acceleration Ecosystem (Indus-X) to bolster ties between their defense industries. The program aims to expand the strategic technological partnership and defense industrial cooperation between the two nations. The initiative builds on a commitment made in January 2023 to launch an innovation bridge to connect US and Indian defense start-ups as part of the US-India initiative on critical and emerging technology. India’s Innovations for Defense Excellence and the Office of the Secretary of Defense are leading the Indus-X activities for their respective governments. The program comes just as India’s defense industry is experiencing significant growth, with India’s defense spending forecast to reach $445.7bn between 2024-28. The two governments will also explore joint challenges for US and Indian start-ups and set up a joint innovation fund. Private investors will be engaged to garner support for investment in defense and dual-use startups.
