The United States has granted study visas to 3,500 Indian students during the seventh annual Student Visa Day that was held across the country. Consular officers from various Indian cities interviewed almost 3,500 Indian student visa applicants. This year’s event aims to celebrate the long-standing higher education ties between India and the United States, encouraging exchanging students.
According to the US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, student exchange is at the heart of US-India relations. A US education provides students with a world-class education and access to a global network of knowledge, laying the foundation for a lifetime of understanding.
More than 200,000 Indian students are currently studying at US academic institutions, accounting for over 20 percent of all international students in the United States. Last year, a record-breaking 125,000 Indians received student visas, representing over one in every five student visas issued.
The US Mission encourages all students interested in studying in the United States to contact EducationUSA. It is a US government-sponsored advising service that offers credible and comprehensive information to help navigate the admission and visa processes. EducationUSA has eight advising centers across India, representing accredited US colleges and universities.
The US Ambassador and Consuls General throughout India congratulated the visa recipients, encouraging more Indian students to pursue US education opportunities. As ambassador Eric Garcetti pointed out, he came to India as a young student, seeing first-hand how transformative these experiences can be for students.
Overall, the US government’s efforts to attract top talent from India with these education opportunities will continue. The US Mission is planning to interview more students this year than ever before.
