US Mission in India Preparing for Record Number of Student Visa Applications
The US Mission in India has organized its seventh annual Student Visa Day aimed at facilitating visa applications for Indian students set to study in the United States. Consular Officers from New Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai conducted interviews with approximately 3,500 Indian student visa applicants. US Ambassador Eric Garcetti, along with Consuls General from various cities in India, offered their congratulations to the visa recipients.
The Student Visa Day serves as a celebration of the higher education connections between the United States and India, while also highlighting the significant number of Indian students who choose to pursue their education in the US. Indian students constitute over 20% of the total international student population in the US, with over 200,000 studying there this year.
Last year, a record-breaking 125,000 Indians were issued student visas, which outnumbered any other nationality. This year, the US Mission intends to interview more students than ever before, with its officials encouraging all students interested in studying in the United States to contact EducationUSA, a free US government-sponsored advising service that provides credible and comprehensive information to help navigate the admission and visa processes.
Ambassador Eric Garcetti emphasized the significance of student exchange in the US-India relations. A US education provides students with a world-class education, access to a global network of knowledge, and lays the foundation for a lifetime of understanding. The US Mission hopes to encourage as many Indian students as possible to take advantage of these opportunities.
