The United States Secretary of Defence, Lloyd Austin, has voiced concerns over China’s bullying and coercion and its attempts to redraw borders by force. Speaking in India after a meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Austin emphasised the importance of joint military exercises between India and the US in preserving and protecting essential freedoms. The two officials also agreed on a roadmap for defence industrial cooperation aimed at identifying opportunities for co-production and collaboration on new technologies. Austin’s visit to India comes after he warned at the Shangri-La Security Summit in Singapore of the devastating consequences of conflict in the Taiwan Strait, and criticised China’s actions in the region.
