United States (US) Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, recently called on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K Stalin during his first official visit to Chennai. During their meeting, the Chief Minister invited US firms to participate in the upcoming Global Investors Meet to be held in January 2024. He also stressed the need to enhance economic ties between Tamil Nadu and the US.
In his remarks, Mr Stalin highlighted the longstanding economic ties between Tamil Nadu and the US, with over 400 US firms already operating in the state. Some of these firms include Amazon, Caterpillar, CTS, and IBM, among others. He also noted that Tamil Nadu is among the top three industrialised states in India, and his government aims to make it the most preferred state for investments in India and among the top three in Asia.
In addition to offering several benefits, including skilled manpower and peaceful industrial relations, Tamil Nadu provides vast opportunities for cooperation with the US in automobiles and vehicle spare parts, computer hardware, ICT, biotechnology, and renewable energy sectors. Mr Stalin, therefore, invited the US to be the Partner Country in the upcoming Global Investors Meet.
The official release stressed the importance of further strengthening the economic ties between the US and Tamil Nadu. It also emphasised Tamil Nadu’s vision to become a favourable destination for investments, highlighting that the state provides skilled manpower and has peaceful industrial relations.
