Upper Caste Villagers Attack Dalit Groom for Riding Mare During Wedding Rituals in MP

In Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh, a group of upper caste villagers reportedly pelted stones at a Dalit groom after he sat on a mare for performing wedding rituals. Three police personnel and other individuals were injured in the incident, which took place in Chorai village. Police officials had been deployed in the village to prevent the possibility of a dispute. The groom’s family was returning home with police protection after performing the rituals of Devi Pujan when stones were pelted at them. The incident has been condemned by former Chief Minister Kamal Nath, who has demanded strict action and a special campaign for social harmony in response. A case has been registered against 20 named and 30 unknown persons under various sections including obstruction in government work. This is not the first such incident to occur in the area in the past, indicating a persistent issue.
