Lucknow: A notorious criminal, Mo Gufran, was shot dead by the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Task Force (STF) in an early morning encounter in the Kaushambi district on Tuesday. Gufran was wanted in several cases of murder and dacoity and had a reward of Rs 1,25,000 on his head. The encounter took place near the Samda sugar mill of Manjhanpur, Kaushambi, when the STF team was conducting a raid in the area.

During the raid, Gufran opened fire on the STF team, which retaliated. In the cross-firing, the criminal was badly injured and rushed to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. According to the UP Police, Gufran was wanted in more than 13 cases of murder, loot, and dacoity in Pratapgarh and other districts of Uttar Pradesh.

Since Yogi Adityanath took over as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 2017, there have been approximately 10,500 encounters across the state that led to the killing of almost 185 criminals. The Kaushambi encounter is part of the state government’s crackdown on criminals and mafias.

The police records reveal that Gufran was a dangerous criminal who had been evading the law for a long time. The UP Police had declared a bounty of Rs 125,000 for any information leading to his capture.

The encounter is part of the state’s efforts to maintain law and order and make Uttar Pradesh a safe place for its citizens. The crackdown on crime and criminals has been one of the top priorities of the Yogi Adityanath government. Measures like the creation of the STF, the strict enforcement of laws, and the use of technology like CCTV cameras have been implemented to curb crimes in the state.

The encounter has brought some relief to the people of Kaushambi, who were living in fear of Gufran and his gang. The police have been appreciated for their swift action and bravery in eliminating the criminal.

Overall, the encounter highlights the state government’s determination to eradicate crime and establish law and order in Uttar Pradesh. However, encounters also raise ethical concerns, and some experts have criticized the police for resorting to violence rather than following the due process of law. It is therefore necessary to strike a balance between maintaining law and order and safeguarding human rights.
