In an effort to mobilize the minority community in the lead-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh is launching a new campaign aimed at convincing Muslims to become Modi Mitra or friends of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The state BJP Minority Morcha will carry out the campaign, which will cover 29 Lok Sabha seats, including 14 constituencies that the party could not win in the 2019 parliamentary elections. It will seek to reach out to the influential class among Muslims, highlighting the benefits of the various welfare schemes initiated under Modi’s leadership. The campaign, part of the Mahasampark Abhiyan (mass contact campaign), aims to establish a dialogue with Sufis to shore up support for the BJP. The Morcha also plans to highlight the various schemes initiated under Modi that have benefited the minority community and for beneficiaries to express their gratitude to the government.
