Another building in downtown Kelowna has been impacted by the construction of the new UBC Okanagan downtown campus building. The School District 23 building located at 580 Doyle Avenue, which is currently leased by the district, has been deemed unsafe due to significant shifts and cracks in the floor caused by the construction. As a result, the district has moved its staff, particularly those working in the eSchool23: Online Learning division, to remote working arrangements. However, Superintendent Kevin Kaardal assures that none of the services provided to students will be impacted by the move. The district is now seeking alternative space to house these employees for the remainder of the year, with plans for them to eventually relocate to the new SD23 building on Hollywood Road. The sale of the Doyle Avenue property will help fund renovations to the school board property on Hollywood Road. Superintendent Kaardal commended the resilience of his staff in adapting to the ongoing challenges. The construction has previously impacted the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26 and Okanagan coLab.
