The University of Nigeria Nzuka (UNN) Alumni Association has bestowed the honour of Life Patron on Chief Emanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo worldwide. The official presentation of the award was made by the National President of the Association, Lady Dr. Doris Okoroh, during a courtesy visit to Chief Iwuanyanwu at his Glas House office in Owerri.
The decision to appoint Chief Iwuanyanwu as the life patron of the association was reached at the recent National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Makurdi, Benue state. In addition to Chief Iwuanyanwu, His Excellency, GTB Tobi, was also approved as a life patron.
Speaking about the decision, Lady Dr. Doris Okoroh stated, Having considered your age and your good track records, we resolved to elevate you and Chief Tobi to the enviable position of our life patrons.
Lady Dr. Doris Okoroh commended Chief Iwuanyanwu for his continued support and love for the University and expressed gratitude for his assistance. She also informed him that the association had created awareness and instituted an annual award for deserving individuals in the society since her election as the National President.
Chief Iwuanyanwu expressed deep appreciation for the honour bestowed upon him by the association. He recounted his achievements at the age of 75, including the construction of an ultra-modern cathedral church for the Anglican Diocese of Ikeduru in Imo State. He also expressed his love and regard for the University of Nigeria Nsuka, describing it as a prestigious institution, despite the wrong impression that had been created about it.
For Chief Iwuanyanwu, the honour as a life patron holds great importance and he thanked the leadership of the UNN Alumni Association for the recognition. He expressed his gratitude to God for everything.
