A gun battle between unknown gunmen and Assam Rifles troops occurred in Manipur’s Imphal West district on Thursday morning. The exchange of fire began at North Boljang at 5 am, and the situation has since been controlled. Combating operations have been implemented to locate the gunmen.
Sources say that automatic small arms were heard in Urangpat, North of YKPI in Imphal East district around 5.45 pm on Wednesday. Reports also indicate that around 5.30 pm, unidentified gunmen fired shots in two directions towards Harothel. The situation was brought under control around 7.30 pm. The Sawonbung-YKPI road remained blocked at several locations on Wednesday due to women activists.
The incident has raised concerns about the security situation in the region.
