University of Maryland Seeks Papers on Cyber Rail Threats for March 2024 Short Course and Workshop, US

The University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) is calling for papers on cyber and digital information in railway engineering and operations for a short course and workshop scheduled for March 7-8, 2024. The Short Course on Cyber Rail aims to equip railway professionals and decision-makers with the necessary expertise to identify and counter cyber threats, especially those targeting train control systems, signaling systems, data storage, passenger information systems, and track station infrastructure.

Covering essential topics such as digital technology, cybersecurity fundamentals, railway cybersecurity challenges and threat vectors, requirements and standards for rail transportation cybersecurity, as well as examples of cyberattacks, the course promises to offer valuable insights to participants.

According to UMD, suggested paper topics for submission include:

The abstract submissions are due on January 15 and should be sent via email to Nii Attoh-Okine, Professor and Chair of the UMD Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Director, Digital and Cyber Railway Engineering and Operations Center ([email protected]). Acceptance notifications are anticipated to be sent on February 1.

The Short Course on Cyber Rail will be held on March 7, followed by a workshop on March 8 at UMD’s Jeong H. Kim Engineering Building in College Park, Maryland. For further information, interested individuals can download the brochure below.
