Authorities Arrest UI Student For Allegedly Raping Colleague – OsunDefender
Security Personnel within the University of Ibadan, Oyo State have arrested a 200-level student of the Faculty of Law, of the institution for allegedly raping a 100-level colleague within the campus.
The victim, a fresher at the university, was reportedly assaulted while studying at a night class with some other girls in preparation for their examination.
According to the victim, she left the lecture theatre due to a power failure and decided to take a nap at the Students’ Union building. It was during this time that the suspect allegedly attacked her.
The young woman recounted the horror of waking up to find herself being assaulted. She tried to scream, but the suspect forcefully held her neck, rendering her voiceless.
Luck was on her side when another student entered the room, causing the suspect to flee the scene.
Sadly, the victim suffered injuries to her neck, lips (as a result of a bite), and her private parts.
Confirming the incident, Mrs. Joke Akinpelu, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, stated that investigations are underway, and the suspect was held by the security unit.
The act has been reported to the Dean of Students Affairs, and appropriate actions have been taken, Akinpelu said.
This incident has once again raised concerns about the safety and security of students on university campuses. It serves as a reminder of the need for educational institutions to prioritize the well-being of their students and implement measures to prevent such crimes from occurring.
