Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal, attended a stakeholders’ meeting to unlock the Export-Import (EXIM) trade potential of Dhubri port in Assam. Organized by the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), the meeting was attended by senior officials of IWAI along with stakeholders and business groups from Bangladesh and Bhutan. During the meeting, various issues plaguing the smooth operation of the port were discussed, along with limitations faced by business interest groups to optimally use the Dhubri port. Minister Sonowal said that by investing in the infrastructure to ensure smooth conduit via inland waterways, the government is committed to unlocking the value and economic potential of the interior parts of India. The meeting resulted in the decision to digitize all customs processes at Dhubri Port, and a plan to build a modern integrated office complex where offices of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Home Affairs will be present. A new warehouse as well as a new road are also being considered to be built at Dhubri port to allow stakeholders to unlock mutual growth in the region.
