Union Minister Kiren Rijiju criticized the Congress party as the no-confidence motion brought by the opposition divided the Lok Sabha. During the parliamentary session, Rijiju argued that the Congress would regret their decision later. The motion, presented by Congress Party MP Gaurav Gogoi, was accepted by Speaker Om Birla on July 26, amid ongoing protests from the opposition demanding a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the situation in Manipur.

In his address, Rijiju also condemned the previous United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government for the racial discrimination and atrocities faced by people from the Northeast in Delhi and other major cities prior to 2014. He highlighted the positive changes brought about under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, stating that the Prime Minister had won the trust of the eight Northeast states by addressing their issues and working for their development.

Taking a dig at the opposition bloc, Rijiju criticized their alliance, known as I.N.D.I.A (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance), stating that mere naming would not help if they were working against the interests of India. He emphasized that due to strong leadership in the country, no foreign power could interfere in India’s internal matters.

The no-confidence motion debate was initiated by Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi with heated exchanges between the opposition and treasury benches. However, it is expected that the vote will favor Prime Minister Modi’s government, as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies hold a majority in parliament.

The no-confidence motion provides an opportunity for MPs who have the support of at least 50 colleagues to introduce a motion against the Council of Ministers. During the discussion on the motion, MPs supporting the motion highlight the government’s shortcomings, while the treasury benches respond to the raised issues.

Prime Minister Modi is facing his second no-confidence motion in Parliament, the first in his second term. While the outcome of the vote is not expected to be against the government, the debate provides a platform for opposition leaders to push for a response from Prime Minister Modi regarding the ongoing ethnic clashes in Manipur.

In conclusion, the no-confidence motion has divided the Lok Sabha, with Union Minister Kiren Rijiju criticizing the Congress party for their timing and methods. Although the vote is unlikely to go against Prime Minister Modi’s government, the debate highlights the opposition’s concerns and seeks accountability from the ruling party.
