Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya conducted a review meeting on Tuesday to assess the preparedness for Cyclone Biparjoy in Gujarat. The very severe cyclonic storm is expected to hit the Gujarat coast on June 15. The Health Ministry has been in constant communication with its regional offices in all western coast states, including Gujarat, to provide necessary support and assistance. So far, there has been no request from the state for additional help from the Health Ministry.
The ministry also readied six Central Quick Response Medical Teams that were pooled from various hospitals across the country to cater to emergency needs and services. These teams are on standby and ready to mobilize in the event of any emergency. The Health Ministry is closely monitoring the situation and taking all necessary measures to prepare for any impending health emergencies.
The Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) in all states has been tasked to conduct post-disaster disease surveillance through the State/district surveillance units for timely detection of any disease outbreak following the cyclone. The Health Ministry has also ensured adequate supplies of essential medicines and logistic requirements through HLL Lifecare Ltd.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has urged the public to take necessary precautions and stay safe during the cyclone. The ministry assured that it is fully committed to providing all necessary support to those affected by Cyclone Biparjoy.
