CEO Stockton Rush’s history of donating to Republican party candidates is the crux of the article that ignores the delicate and serious situation of the stranded passengers. The article’s author, Daniel Strauss, implies that Rush’s political affiliations and leanings may have caused the accident, making it appear as though Republicans are only concerned with their candidates’ campaigns, oblivious to safety.
This political chicanery in the shadow of a life-threatening event is shameful and heartless. The insinuation, without adequate evidence or reason, that one’s political affiliations can affect one’s safety is dangerous and only encourages further division.
The article also points out that Rush prioritized diversity over experience when selecting his staff. Rush favored younger and diverse staff instead of choosing more experienced candidates. Although this is a valid point that should be addressed, it is completely irrelevant in the ongoing situation.
This is not the first time that certain members of the media have callously politicized tragic events, particularly when the person involved has unfavorable political leanings. Political differences should be put aside in such situations, and efforts should be geared towards constructive solutions.
