Ukrainian refugees living in Caerphilly, Wales, will gather to share their poignant stories of survival and the challenges they have faced while integrating into their new community. The Parish Trust is organizing a free-to-attend event at their base in Trethomas this week, providing a platform for refugees to recount their firsthand experiences of the war in Ukraine.
The event will commence at 7pm on Tuesday, August 1, welcoming residents of Caerphilly and offering them a unique opportunity to listen to the accounts of Ukrainian individuals who have escaped the horrors of the conflict and now call Caerphilly their home.
In addition to the profound narratives, attendees will be treated to live music performances and have the opportunity to savor refreshments provided by Caffi Caredig, a mobile coffee shop operated by the Parish Trust.
Caerphilly County Borough Council staff members will be present to address queries from those interested in becoming hosts for Ukrainian refugees seeking solace from the war-torn region.
Councillor Shayne Cook, the council’s cabinet member for housing, emphasized the significance of this event, stating, The Ukraine Night is a chance for Caerphilly residents to hear first-hand experiences of Ukrainians who have fled this horrific war and now reside in Caerphilly. It will be an opportunity to share and celebrate our cultural experiences.
Cllr Cook further encouraged residents to extend their support to these Ukrainian refugees, and those interested in hosting or volunteering were encouraged to reach out to ukrainesupport@caerphilly.gov.uk or visit the council’s website.
