In Ukraine, the defense-industrial complex is testing two new models of machine guns that are expected to revolutionize the country’s armed forces. Developed by a private enterprise with extensive experience in producing small arms, these machine guns aim to replace the Soviet KPV and NSV machine guns currently in use.

The first model, chambered with a 14.5×114-mm cartridge, is specifically designed to target lightly armored vehicles, such as armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles. Additionally, it can effectively engage fire equipment and enemy personnel hiding behind light shelters. Following successful tests and operational approval, it will replace the KPV machine gun (KPV-T) in Soviet-made APCs and BRDM. In the future, it may also be utilized as an infantry machine gun or mounted on various vehicles.

The second machine gun is designed for the 12.7×99 mm caliber and serves as an analog to the Soviet NSV machine gun and the American-made Browning M2. Once deployed, this machine gun will replace the outdated NSV machine gun. Its versatility allows it to be used in three different ways.

These new models offer superior characteristics compared to their Soviet counterparts, making them ideal for Ukraine’s Defense Forces. With the intensive use of existing machine guns, the developments are essential for maintaining a technologically advanced military.

Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, along with the military technology platform Brave1, recently conducted tests on 25 Ukrainian developments, including kamikaze robots and remote turrets that will soon be deployed to the frontlines. Additionally, LLC Ukrainian Armored Vehicles has resumed the production of mortars of various calibers, supplying more than 600 units to the armed forces this year alone.

The introduction of these new machine guns is a significant step towards modernizing Ukraine’s defense capabilities. By leveraging domestic expertise, the country aims to enhance its military strength and stay at the forefront of technological advancements. These developments mark a crucial milestone as Ukraine strives to strengthen its national security and protect its borders.
