UI Hawkeyes Create History with First Outdoor Crossover at Kinnick: Women’s Basketball Takes Center Stage

The Iowa women’s basketball team is set to make history this fall as they showcase their talents on the gridiron for the very first time. The Hawkeyes will host a unique scrimmage called Crossover at Kinnick on October 15th at Kinnick Stadium, marking a groundbreaking moment for the program. This one-of-a-kind event aims to elevate women’s basketball and provide fans with an unforgettable experience.

According to an Iowa Athletics press release, Crossover at Kinnick is an opportunity for the Hawkeyes to play in front of their dedicated fans within the iconic Kinnick Stadium. Gabbie Marshall, a senior player for the team, expressed her excitement, stating, We’re super excited to play in front of the best fans in the country inside Kinnick Stadium. We’re thankful to have an administration that gives us this platform to elevate our sport.

Tickets for the event will be available for purchase starting on August 15th, with a priority given to 2022 women’s basketball season ticket holders. The following day, University of Iowa contributors and football season ticket holders will have the opportunity to secure their tickets. Finally, on August 17th, tickets will be available to the general public.

To accommodate various weather conditions, the organizers will be offering two types of tickets. Rain or Shine tickets, priced at $20, will allow fans to attend the scrimmage either at Kinnick Stadium or at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in the case of inclement weather. For those who prefer to attend exclusively at Kinnick, there will be tickets available for $10 (adults) and $5 (students and those under 18 years of age).

In addition to providing an unforgettable experience for fans, the Crossover at Kinnick scrimmage will also benefit the UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital, as stated in the press release. Proceeds from the event will contribute to a noble cause and make a positive impact on the community.

To ensure widespread coverage, the scrimmage will be broadcasted on Big Ten Plus and the Hawkeye Radio Network. This allows fans who are unable to attend in person to still enjoy the game from the comfort of their homes or while on-the-go.

The Hawkeyes enter the 2023-24 season brimming with motivation. Their remarkable achievements from the previous season, including a school-record 31 wins and a journey to the NCAA championship game against LSU, have raised expectations and excitement for the upcoming campaign.

The Crossover at Kinnick presents a significant opportunity for the Hawkeyes to showcase their talent and entertain fans in a unique setting. As they take center stage on the gridiron, the team aims to inspire and elevate women’s basketball to new heights. With their impressive track record and dedicated fan base, the potential for an exhilarating event is high.

Don’t miss the historic Crossover at Kinnick scrimmage on October 15th as the Iowa women’s basketball team breaks barriers and creates an unforgettable experience for fans. Grab your tickets and be a part of history as the Hawkeyes demonstrate their skills on the grand stage of Kinnick Stadium.
