Udoka Azubuike, former player for the Utah Jazz, has joined the Phoenix Suns and is ready to compete alongside Deandre Ayton in pursuit of an NBA championship. The 6-foot-11, 270-pound center signed a two-way deal with the Suns after three seasons with the Jazz.

Azubuike expressed his excitement about joining a team with championship aspirations and his opportunity to contribute to a special team. Speaking about playing alongside Ayton, he revealed that they have known each other since high school and are looking forward to competing together for the team’s success.

The Nigerian-born Azubuike also mentioned his desire to wear the number he had initially chosen coming out of the University of Kansas, which is number 27. Unfortunately, he couldn’t select it while with the Jazz because it was already taken by Rudy Gobert, who has since moved on to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

During the last NBA season, Azubuike averaged 3.5 points on an impressive 81.9% shooting from the field, along with 3.3 rebounds in 36 games. He then participated in the NBA Summer League with the Boston Celtics, showcasing his skills by averaging 7.4 points and 6.6 rebounds in five games.

In addition to his Summer League experience, Azubuike played in games against former Suns player Bismack Biyombo in Malaga, Spain. These games were organized by the National Basketball Players Association, and Azubuike shared video footage of his performance on his Instagram account.

James Jones, the Suns’ president of basketball operations and general manager, praised Azubuike’s imposing size and ability to finish around the rim, emphasizing his strength and physicality as assets that would contribute to the team’s depth.

Azubuike recognizes his role within the team, stating that he will focus on doing his job, such as being a rebounder, setting screens, and being a presence around the paint. With the Suns’ offensive firepower, he understands the importance of executing his role effectively and capitalizing on opportunities that come his way.

The upcoming season marks Azubuike’s fourth year in the NBA, and he is eager to showcase his skills and contribute to the team’s success. Despite facing injuries throughout his career, he remains positive about his current health and the opportunities ahead of him.

Beyond basketball, Azubuike enjoys watching movies and appreciating nature. He finds leisure in activities like walking around bodies of water, traveling, and reading books. He recently finished reading Chop Wood Carry Water by Joshua Medcalf, an inspirational book that explores the journey of becoming great and overcoming personal challenges.

With Udoka Azubuike joining the Phoenix Suns, the team adds a talented and motivated player who is determined to contribute to their championship aspirations. As fans eagerly await the start of the new season, Azubuike’s presence and past battles with Deandre Ayton create an exciting dynamic that could elevate the team’s performance.
