Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President JP Nadda recently made a controversial statement about Shivsena leader Uddhav Thackeray during a public rally in Odisha’s Kalahandi. Nadda took a dig at Thackeray for attending an opposition meeting in Patna, saying that Thackeray had shut the shop for his father, Hindu Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray.
Nadda went on to criticize opposition leaders at the meeting in Bihar, saying that they were forgetting the past, where leaders like Lalu Prasad Yadav and Nitish Kumar had been jailed. He also slammed the Congress and said that they didn’t understand the link between economic growth and employment.
Union Minister Smriti Irani also took a swipe at the opposition meeting, stating that the Congress had admitted that they cannot defeat Prime Minister Narendra Modi alone.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar hosted the meeting of opposition leaders with the aim of forming a united front against the BJP for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. More than 15 opposition parties attended the event.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also addressed the issue, saying that PM Modi would form the government again in 2024 with over 300 seats.
The meeting has sparked controversy and criticism from the BJP, who claim that the opposition is conspiring against them. It remains to be seen what will come out of the discussions and whether a united opposition front can be formed.
