The Head of Cybersecurity for the UAE Government, Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, revealed that ChatGPT is being used for ransomware attacks. Speaking at the sixth CSIS Cybersecurity Innovation Series Conference in Dubai, Al Kuwaiti said that adversaries are using ChatGPT to launch ransomware and phishing attacks. He added that criminals are designing tools using ChatGPT in many different aspects to perpetrate their crimes. Al Kuwaiti reiterated that artificial intelligence (AI) is also being used by cybercriminals to launch attacks, and that AI poses a serious threat to the UAE infrastructure. However, he revealed that the UAE government also uses AI to defend its infrastructure against cyber attacks. The government is continuously building a cybersecurity culture across all aspects of life, which includes education. Many curricula have been updated and integrated with digital transformation as part of Vision 2030, Vision 2050 and Centennial 2071. Al Kuwaiti stressed the importance of everyone in the community contributing to spreading awareness of cybersecurity to ensure that nobody is left behind. He said that a new cyber-pulse campaign has been launched to achieve this objective.
