Two men are facing human smuggling charges for allegedly transporting people across the border on freight trains, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Jesus Ortiz-Plata and Juan Pablo Cuellar Medina were arrested in Seattle last week, along with three individuals they were accused of smuggling out of British Columbia. The scheme was described as extremely dangerous, with one incident in August involving the rescue of 29 individuals from a freight car filled with plastic pellets. The men are facing up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.
