Unnao (UP), Jun 26 (PTI) – Two men have been booked by the police for attacking a 25-year-old journalist in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. Mannu Awasthi, a resident of PD Nagar, was reportedly shot at by unidentified persons.
The victim’s father lodged a complaint with the city police station, following which an FIR was registered against Anshu Gupta and Deepak Singh under sections 147, 148, 307 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.
The incident has raised serious concerns regarding the safety of journalists in the state. The police department is currently investigating the case to uncover the motive behind the attack.
Journalists have been targeted several times in the state of UP in recent years. The perpetrators often act with impunity, which only serves to embolden them to commit more heinous crimes.
