Police in the Mahasamund district of Chhattisgarh have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug smuggling. Two individuals were arrested on suspicion of peddling cannabis and subsequently, contraband worth INR 1.25 crore was seized. Acting on intelligence, the police team intercepted a truck and found approximately 500 kilograms of cannabis within it. The accused persons, who were both from Delhi, had allegedly suffered financially due to the COVID-19 pandemic and turned to illegal activities as a result. They were transporting the drugs to Raipur when they were caught. The police have launched an investigation and registered an offence against the two under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. This bust represents a major success for the authorities in their ongoing battle against drug trafficking.
