Two individuals have been arrested in Morena, Madhya Pradesh for cheating people by pretending to open bank accounts. The police received information about three youths from Surat, Gujarat who were luring people to open accounts in HDFC Bank for arranging loans and financial benefits. After setting up a team to investigate the case, senior police officials took two of the suspects into custody and seized 19 passbooks and five ATM cards from them. The suspects were found to have withdrawn 25,000 rupees out of 30,000 rupees from customers’ accounts while claiming that they would get back the money after obtaining a loan. They also deceived people by promising to change their 2,000-rupee notes. The police have registered a case and are questioning the suspects.

The mastermind of the racket reportedly went to Gujarat a few days before the police investigation began. A resident of Madhuvan colony in Ganeshpura city raised the alarm after realizing that they had been duped into opening bank accounts. The suspects would get cheques signed by the customers and then convince them to open accounts by making false promises. Despite a few people opening accounts, the police were able to catch the perpetrators and seize some of the stolen money and belongings. The suspects will soon face charges in court.

Cases of fraud like this are unfortunately common, and it is important for people to be vigilant and not fall for such scams. Financial institutions can also play a role in preventing such incidents by educating customers and implementing proper security measures. Authorities must continue to take swift action to catch and prosecute those who exploit innocent people for personal gain.
