The Twitter feud between Congress leader KC Venugopal and Union civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia continues over the latest surge in airfares and other aspects concerning India’s civil aviation sector. In a long tweet, Venugopal criticized Scindia and accused the current government of being impotent in controlling the price increase and stopping predatory action by airlines. Scindia responded, saying that his ministry has quickly addressed the issue and intervened by sending strict advisories to airlines to self-regulate fares.

The airline operator Go First filed for voluntary insolvency in May, which led to the hike in airfare on some routes. Scindia mentioned that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is closely monitoring the situation and that fares have already gone down by up to 60%. He also attached images of airfares for various operators operating on major routes to substantiate his claim.

Scindia further emphasized that a significant reduction in airfare had occurred after his ministry had intervened. He added that GoFirst had been under pressure, and some routes that it previously served have already been assigned to other airlines. The minister’s claims may come as a relief to many Indians who have been struggling with the increased cost of air travel.

Overall, the Twitter spat between Venugopal and Scindia continues, while the general public hopes for stable and affordable airfares in the future.
