Tripura’s TIPRA Chief Threatens To Intensify Movement For Roman Script in Kokborok Language

Pradyot Debbarma, the Chief of the TIPRA party in Tripura, has threatened to intensify his movement calling for the approval of the Roman script for the Kokborok language. The TIPRA chief criticized the police’s action on Wednesday, 15 June, when they lathi-charged and used water cannons on a peaceful protest rally by the Tipra Indigenous Students’ Federation (TISF) demanding the same. More than 20 TISF members were injured during the rally.

Speaking on the matter, Pradyot Debbarma condemned the police action and said that the movement will intensify in the future if the government of Tripura doesn’t consider Roman script for the Kokborok language. He also slammed the Governor for not meeting with them or the students and asked him to be neutral as he is the emissary of the Government of India.

The royal scion of Tripura also requested both the government of India and Tripura to consider Roman script for Kokborok, failing which the movement will intensify. He also questioned the police’s actions, asking what the students did wrong and why they were attacked while talking about their futures.

In conclusion, Tripura’s TIPRA chief has demanded the Roman script for the Kokborok language, and slammed the police’s actions on a peaceful protest rally. He also called out the Governor for not being neutral and asked both the Government of India and Tripura to consider Roman script for Kokborok, failing which the movement will intensify.
