A tribal woman in Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh district was subjected to a horrific incident of physical abuse and public humiliation by her husband and in-laws. The distressing incident came to light after a video of the incident went viral on social media platforms. The Director General of Police, Umesh Mishra, disclosed that the incident occurred in Nichalkota village of Pahada Gram Panchayat under the jurisdiction of Dhariyavad police station on Thursday.
Once the police were made aware of the video on Friday evening, the district’s Superintendent of Police, Inspector-General of Police, and the Officer-in-Charge of the concerned police station promptly visited the village. Investigations revealed that the victim had been married for a year but had started living with another man in the village. This allegedly enraged her in-laws, who decided to take matters into their own hands.
Expressing his condemnation of the incident, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot assured swift action against the accused, stating that they would be apprehended and brought to justice. Director General of Police Umesh Mishra explained that the woman was abducted by her in-laws and taken to their village, where the heinous act was committed. Her husband brutally beat her, stripped her, and paraded her for approximately one kilometer in the village. Shockingly, some women from her in-law’s side were also directly involved in the incident.
The police are determined to arrest all individuals responsible for this atrocious crime. Additional Director General of Police Dinesh MN will personally visit the location to gain further insights into the case. Six police teams have been formed to apprehend the accused, ensuring that they face the full force of the law.
Reacting to the incident, Rajasthan’s Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, took to social media to express his outrage. He directed the Director General of Police to deploy an Additional Director General of Police in charge of crime to investigate the matter thoroughly. Gehlot emphasized that societies cannot tolerate such criminals and affirmed that they would be punished swiftly through a fast-track court.
The incident has drawn attention and criticism from politicians across party lines. CP Joshi, a Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Member of Parliament from Chittorgarh, expressed his shame over the incident on social media. Joshi highlighted that the authorities were initially unaware of the gruesome act, emphasizing the urgent need to address the issue of violence against women in Rajasthan.
Congress MLA Nagraj Meena from Dhariyawad Assembly segment in Pratapgarh District visited the local police station upon learning of the incident. He held discussions with the District Collector and District Superintendent of Police, condemning the incident that has shaken the region. Assuring immediate action, he conveyed his instructions to the police to act promptly and decisively.
