The Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) in Manipur has announced its boycott of the peace committee aimed at restoring normalcy in the state. The ITLF has expressed its disagreement with the inclusion of chief minister N Biren Singh in the panel and labelled him the perpetrator of the current violence in the state. The Kuki community-backed organization, which has condemned the Manipur chief minister’s constant rhetoric against the Kuki-Zo community, accused Singh of using hate speech and labelling the tribe as drug peddlers, terrorists and illegal immigrants. Allegations have also been made against the state police and a few Meitei groups of spearheading the violence in the state. ITLF warns that there can be no peace as long as the state police and Meitei militant groups are given free rein to terrorize Kuki-Zo tribal villages. The peace committee consists of 51 members and is headed by the Manipur governor Anusuiya Uikey, including state ministers, MPs, MLAs, leaders of different political parties, and representatives of media and civil society organizations.
