Trenton Acadians Claim Victory in American Legion World Series with Dominant Pitching

The Trenton Acadians showcased their dominant pitching skills in the American Legion World Series, even though they did not advance to the semifinals. Led by Hunter Curtis, the Acadians secured a 4-2 victory over League City, Texas, with a complete-game five-hitter.

Curtis, who also contributed with two run-scoring singles, delivered an outstanding performance on the mound. He struck out four batters and did not issue any walks over seven innings. Curtis allowed only a double and four singles, throwing an impressive 92 pitches, 64 of which were strikes.

The game had a tight start, with both teams tied at 1-1 heading into the fifth inning. However, the Acadians seized control of the game by scoring two runs in the fifth. Hunter Curtis played a crucial role in securing the lead by singling through the left side of the infield with two outs, bringing in a vital run.

Although the Texans managed to score a run in the sixth inning, Trenton responded swiftly with an insurance run in the seventh. Thanks to a walk, a single, and another timely single from Hunter Curtis, the Acadians extended their lead and sealed the victory.

Despite their strong performance, the Trenton Acadians fell short of advancing to the semifinals, finishing with a 1-2 record in the tournament. League City and Cheyenne, Wyoming, emerged as the top two teams in the Stars Division and secured their spots in the semifinals.

The Acadians, made up of players from Ellsworth and Bar Harbor’s Mount Desert Island High Schools, as well as Blue Hill’s George Stevens Academy, had an impressive run leading up to the American Legion World Series. They clinched the Maine State and Northeast Regional titles, marking a significant achievement for the program, which was established in 1979 and had never won a state title before.

While their journey in the World Series may have ended sooner than desired, the Trenton Acadians demonstrated their competitive spirit and resilience. Hunter Curtis, in particular, showcased his exceptional skills on the mound, solidifying his status as a great pitcher.

Head coach Brad Smith commended Curtis, highlighting his determination and ability to rise to the occasion. Curtis himself acknowledged the significance of the game, as it marked his last Legion game before moving on to play at Husson University in Bangor.

Despite not advancing further in the tournament, the Trenton Acadians can be proud of their achievements and the legacy they have built in Maine baseball. Their participation in the American Legion World Series will undoubtedly inspire future generations of players in the region.
