Transgender Inclusion in Women’s Spaces and Sports: A Biological Perspective

MP Moira Deeming recently spoke at the Friedman Conference in Sydney, sharing her views on transgender people in women’s spaces, sports, and the impact of gender-neutral policies. Deeming firmly believes that the question of whether transgender individuals can access toilets and change rooms of the opposite sex should be based on biology.

Deeming argues that the issue is not about how individuals present themselves or whether they pass as a certain gender. Instead, she asserts that a woman is a woman, whether she looks like one or not. A man is a man whether he looks like one or not. She criticizes the notion of detaching language from objective reality, stating that demanding people to use language that is not rooted in reality is psychologically abusive.

The MP also applies these biological principles to transgender women participating in women’s sports. She argues that the categories in sports are based on sex, not gender identity. She believes that if an individual is biologically male, that should be the defining factor, irrespective of their appearance or strength ratio.

For Deeming, the issue is not about transgenderism itself but about fairness and freedom in the law. She claims that in Victoria, all sex-based rights were removed under the pretext of transgender anti-discrimination protocols, leading to an erosion of women and children’s safeguarding. Deeming further criticizes the ambiguity and consequences of language in the law, expressing concern that using the wrong words could result in complaints or accusations of discrimination.

Following her attendance at a women’s rights rally in Melbourne on March 18, Deeming was expelled from the Victorian Liberal Party Room. The rally was gate crashed by a group of neo-Nazis, leading to accusations that Deeming supported their ideology. Despite the consequences she has faced, Deeming remains steadfast in voicing her concerns and protecting women’s boundaries, parental rights, and freedom of speech.

Deeming also highlights the progressive stance in the state of Victoria concerning children who believe they are transgender. Professionals are required to affirm a person’s chosen gender, even if it goes against their medical opinion. Moreover, schools can declare a student a mature minor without informing their parents, a policy Deeming strongly criticizes. She questions the lack of professional assessment for gender dysphoria and the absence of accountability in these decisions.

Regarding this issue, MP David Limbrick expresses his belief that socially transitioning a child at school without parental knowledge is more widespread than anticipated. Limbrick suggests that parental rights should be enshrined in law and that government intervention should only occur under extreme circumstances.

It is clear that Deeming’s stance on transgender people in women’s spaces, sports, and gender-neutral policies is rooted in her concern for fairness, freedom, and the clarity of language and law. While acknowledging the importance of respecting individuals’ gender identity, Deeming believes that biological sex should determine access to certain spaces and participation in sports. As the debate continues, it is essential to consider the perspectives of all parties involved and find a balance that respects the rights of transgender individuals while addressing the concerns raised by individuals like Deeming.
