About a hundred volunteer teachers took part in a one-day training on the New India Literacy Programme (NILP) held in Mon town on June 14. The NILP was launched by the government to cover a target of five crore learners in five years under foundational literacy and numeracy component. The programme aims to include five objectives such as foundational literacy and numeracy, critical life skills, vocational skills development, basic education, and continuing education targeting citizen literacy by 2030. Rongsenmenla, the guest of honour at the event, stressed the need for increased literacy to promote societal progress. The training programme was chaired by Lipshing Konyak, supervisor of Adult Education (AE), and was attended by more than 100 volunteer teachers.
