A tragic incident occurred in Gurgaon on Thursday morning, resulting in the death of a Class 2 student and leaving her father in critical condition. The young girl was being dropped off at school by her father when a car traveling on the wrong side of the road collided with their scooter in Sector 22.
The car driver, allegedly attempting to flee the scene, crushed the girl’s head and ran over her father’s arm. The girl’s father, identified as Sardar Gurmeet Singh, is currently fighting for his life at Manipal Hospital in the city. Thankfully, her 11-year-old brother, who was also on the scooter, managed to escape unharmed.
Neighbours of the family shared their concern, revealing that Gurmeet Singh has not yet been informed about his daughter’s tragic death. This heartbreaking news will undoubtedly have a devastating impact on the family.
Following the collision, the driver of the car was apprehended, while two other occupants fled the scene. The entire incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera, providing crucial evidence for the investigation.
According to the police, the family was on their way to Rotary Public School when a Maruti Celerio, displaying an ‘L’ sticker indicating it was often driven by a learner, collided with their scooter while traveling on the wrong side of the road. Witnesses reported that the impact of the accident caused 7-year-old Sehajpreet Kaur to fall onto the windshield of the car, while her father fell to the ground.
Eyewitnesses shared their shock and horror at the scene, stating that two men in the back seat of the car quickly exited and fled. Despite pleas from witnesses, the driver panicked and reversed the car in an attempt to escape. Tragically, the young girl fell onto the road, and the car sped off, crushing her head. In addition, the car driver ran over the father’s left arm, causing further injuries.
The 11-year-old boy immediately sought refuge at the gurudwara in the sector, where the family resided. The swift response of the authorities led to the arrest of the car’s driver, Dhirender Singh, later that day. Singh, a resident of Dharam Colony and an employee of the Ambience Group, was on his way to work when the accident occurred. However, the two other accused individuals, Sanjeev and Rajesh, remain at large.
The police have registered an FIR against all three individuals on charges of rash driving and death by negligence under the sections 279 and 304 of the Indian Penal Code respectively. The investigation is ongoing, and the police must ensure that justice is served in this heartbreaking case.
