Tragic Accident Claims Life of 12-Year-Old Girl as Car Plunges Into Khadakwasla Dam
In a devastating incident on Wednesday evening, a family’s celebration of Raksha Bandhan turned into a heartbreaking tragedy as their car veered off the road and plunged into the Khadakwasla Dam in Pune, India. Although the other occupants of the vehicle managed to survive, the young girl, Sanskriti, sadly lost her life in the incident.
The ill-fated journey began when Pradeep Pawar, accompanied by his wife Archana, son Pradyumna, daughter Sanskriti, and sister Sunita Narayan Shinde, set off from Nanded City on Sinhagad Road towards their native village Panshet. However, mere moments before reaching their destination, disaster struck. Near the Maulai temple within the Kuran Budruk village limits on Pune-Panshet Road, a sudden tire burst caused Pawar to lose control of the car, propelling it straight into the dam’s unforgiving waters.
As news of the accident spread, local residents near the temple promptly rushed to the scene to offer assistance. After hours of relentless effort, the car was eventually extracted from the water late at night, but it was too late to save Sanskriti.
Authorities have registered a case of sudden death at the Velhe police station and are currently investigating the incident. Sadly, this is not the first time such an accident has occurred at this perilous stretch of the road. The dangerous turn, coupled with insufficient safety measures, has claimed the lives of at least eight individuals whose vehicles ended up in the Khadakwasla Dam. Regrettably, the administration has yet to take substantial action to address this recurring issue.
The Mulshi and Sinhagad Disaster Management Committee, along with the PMRDA fire brigade and local citizens, worked together tirelessly to retrieve the submerged car. Their collective efforts underline the importance of teamwork and swift response during emergencies.
