Tragedy as Two Teenagers, 15 and 18, Die in Car Crash
A three-vehicle collision on the A192 in Cramlington has resulted in the devastating loss of two young lives. Emergency services responded to the incident at 9.30 pm on Friday night (December 22). Despite the best efforts of paramedics and members of the public, the 18-year-old driver of a Suzuki Vitara, Connor Lapworth from Blyth, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another boy, aged 15 and identified as Corey Mavin, also from Blyth, was a passenger in the vehicle and sustained serious head injuries. Tragically, despite receiving care from medical staff, the 15-year-old passed away yesterday.
The families of both Connor and Corey are currently being supported by specialist Family Liaison Officers as they navigate this devastating time. Two other individuals who were in the Suzuki at the time of the crash, aged 41 and 17, sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment in the hospital. Furthermore, the 36-year-old female driver of a Range Rover involved in the collision sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital. Thankfully, the 52-year-old female driver of a Ford Focus emerged from the accident unscathed.
Expressing their condolences, a spokesperson from Northumbria Police stated, This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are firmly with the family and loved ones of the two young people who have sadly lost their lives and those who have suffered injuries in this collision. We will offer them all of the support they need and ask that their privacy is respected at this time.
The police are urging anyone who witnessed the moments leading up to the collision or may have information regarding the three vehicles involved to come forward. This information could prove crucial in determining the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. Individuals with possible relevant dash cam footage from the area around the time of the crash are also urged to contact the authorities.
