Tottenham Manager Questions Bayern Munich’s Pursuit of Harry Kane as Striker Scores Hat-Trick
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has voiced his concerns over Bayern Munich’s public pursuit of Harry Kane after the striker netted four goals in a pre-season match on Sunday. The uncertainty surrounding Kane’s future at Tottenham Hotspur has dominated the summer transfer window, with Bayern Munich making several approaches for the English forward. However, Postecoglou questioned the manner in which the German club had conducted themselves.
In response to inquiries about Bayern’s pursuit of Kane, Postecoglou emphasized that the 30-year-old still has one year remaining on his contract. He stated, That’s up to Bayern to decide. If that’s the way they want to conduct things, it’s not up to me to judge that. It doesn’t affect me. The Australian manager made it clear that Kane’s contractual status remains unchanged and underlined his reluctance to discuss players from other clubs.
Kane demonstrated his prowess in Tottenham’s 5-1 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk during a pre-season friendly, scoring a hat-trick and an additional goal. The England international opened the scoring with a penalty after James Maddison was fouled in the box. Shakhtar equalized just before halftime, but Kane swiftly restored Tottenham’s lead with a header from Maddison’s cross. He completed his hat-trick five minutes later after being set up by Dejan Kulusevski. Kane then slotted home his fourth goal in the 97th minute, capitalizing on a rebound from Manor Solomon’s shot.
Postecoglou substituted Kane a minute later, and the forward received a standing ovation from the crowd, which he reciprocated with applause. He later returned to the pitch to acknowledge the fans after the final whistle. This victory marked Postecoglou’s first match in charge at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Bayern Munich has persistently pursued Kane throughout the summer transfer window, with their most recent bid submitted on Friday. However, Tottenham owner Daniel Levy reportedly rejected Bayern’s offer as it fell short of the club’s €100 million (£86.1 million) valuation for the striker. Postecoglou appeared critical of Bayern’s self-imposed transfer deadline, stating, From my perspective, I don’t know what deadlines mean. We know there’s one deadline, and that’s the end of the transfer window. Beyond that, I’m in open dialogue with Harry and with the club on a regular basis.
Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel has been pushing for the signing of Kane and has reportedly sanctioned the sale of Sadio Mane to Al-Nassr in order to raise funds for the transfer. If Kane does not sign a new contract with Tottenham, he could sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club as early as January and leave on a free transfer next summer.
As the speculation surrounding Kane’s future continues, Tottenham’s manager has expressed his dissatisfaction with Bayern Munich’s pursuit.
