Canadian rapper Tory Lanez is currently on a 22-hour lockdown in Los Angeles County Jail as he awaits a transfer to state prison. Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the July 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. While in jail, Lanez is being held in the administrative segregation unit, away from the general population. He is only allowed out of his cell for two hours each day and receives three hours of fresh air per week during recreation time. Jail staff check on him every 30 minutes.
Despite his limited privileges, Lanez is allowed to purchase items from the jail’s commissary. He is expected to remain in this restricted environment for the next few weeks until he’s transferred to an intake center. It is at this point that he will learn which California prison he will serve his sentence in.
Although Lanez received a 10-year sentence, he will have almost a year shaved off his time due to time already served. He will be credited for the 231 days he has spent in jail and will receive 15% credit for 34 days. Additionally, his 40 days of house arrest will also be credited, totaling 305 days.
Lanez took to Instagram after his sentencing hearing to address his fans and maintain his innocence. He stated that while he took responsibility for the verbal and intimate moments he shared with the parties involved, he refused to apologize for charges he believes he was wrongfully convicted of.
Lanez’s fans continue to show their support for him during this difficult time. He remains determined to fight for his innocence and believes that tough times don’t last, but tough people do. Lanez also expressed his gratitude to his family, friends, and fans, promising to see them all soon.
As Lanez awaits his transfer to state prison, the case has drawn significant attention, with supporters expressing their views on social media. The rapper’s legal journey will continue as he seeks bail pending appeal, although the likelihood of it being granted is considered to be extremely low. The outcome of this appeal will be heard on August 15th.
It remains to be seen how Lanez’s sentence and conviction will impact his career and future in the music industry.
