Tamil Nadu’s Prabanjan J and Andhra Pradesh’s Bora Varun Chakravarthi have emerged as the toppers of the NEET-UG medical entrance exam with an impressive 99.99 percentile, according to the National Testing Agency (NTA). Out of a total of 20.38 lakh candidates who took the exam, 11.45 lakh have qualified successfully.
The NEET (UG) was conducted on May 7 in a total of 13 languages, across 4,097 centers in 499 cities including 14 cities outside India. The states with the highest number of qualifying candidates are Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan.
According to a senior NTA official, seven candidates were identified for using unfair practices during the examination and were dealt with in accordance with established norms.
The NTA has assigned all India ranks to the candidates, and the admitting authorities will utilize these ranks to prepare merit lists for MBBS and BDS seats which fall under their jurisdiction.
The examination was conducted without any hassles. However, the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in several changes in the examination process.
When candidates apply to their state, they will mention their category as per the state category list. State counseling authorities will subsequently create their merit lists. The same applies to domicile requirements, with the NTA having no involvement in the process, clarified the official.
The NTA has provided an opportunity for students to voice their concerns and submit requests for changes in the NEET examination pattern. The requests will be taken into consideration and might be implemented in future exams.
Overall, the 2021 NEET-UG exam has been a success, and the NTA has announced that the counseling process will begin soon for all the qualifying candidates to enable them to select the medical colleges of their choice.
