Three local candidates have emerged as the top choices in the search for a new superintendent at Gretna Public Schools. After a special meeting on Thursday, the Gretna school board announced the finalists: Travis Lightle, current interim superintendent; Joshua McDowell, superintendent of the Crete Public Schools; and Devin Embray, superintendent of the Glenwood Community Schools in Glenwood, Iowa.
Lightle has been serving as interim superintendent since July 2023, following the retirement of Rich Beran. He previously held the position of assistant superintendent and has been involved in various roles within the district since 2003.
McDowell has been the superintendent of Crete Public Schools since 2019, as stated in a district media release. Prior to his current role, he worked as an administrator in the Grand Island Public Schools.
Embray has been serving as the superintendent of Glenwood Community Schools since 2010. Before that, he held the superintendent position at Independence Community Schools in Independence, Iowa.
The finalists will undergo interviews on Thursday and Friday at 11717 S. 216th St., allowing Gretna administrators, teachers, students, and parents to attend and observe the proceedings.
