Christmas joy was brought to the hearts of the Tiverton Senior Citizens (TCS) thanks to a rousing afternoon of festive song. The Tiverton Amateur Operatic Society (TAOS) serenaded TCS with a delightful performance on Thursday, December 7. From classic Christmas tunes like Carol of the Bells to hits from popular musicals, the TAOS singers and solo performers captivated the audience.
The highlight of the afternoon was when the two groups joined forces to sing Jingle Bells, as a special thank you to the compere, Edna Browning. Browning had jokingly expressed her disappointment that the song wasn’t part of the planned program. It doesn’t matter what time of year I die, I will be having ‘Jingle Bells’ sung at my funeral, she quipped, bringing laughter to the room.
Pauline Farr, chair of TAOS, expressed her delight in participating in the event, saying, It’s always one of the events we look forward to as it puts us all in a very Christmassy mood. I would like to thank Edna Browning for being our compere and for being as entertaining and bringing smiles as usual, Bridget Tosh for being our pianist for the afternoon and at rehearsal, and of course Shirley Cousins, who has led the group and taught us how to hit the right notes.
The chair of TCS, Jean Hunt, also extended her gratitude to TAOS members for their heartwarming performance. She stated, I think all our members will go away smiling and with the festive tunes in our heads. The songs went down well with a mince pie to get us in the Christmas spirit. I’d like to thank the TAOS members for giving up their afternoon to come and sing to us; it is appreciated by everyone here.
The musical treat brought a wonderful sense of community and holiday cheer to the Tiverton Senior Citizens. The event showcased the talent and dedication of the Tiverton Amateur Operatic Society while brightening the day for the seniors in attendance. As the afternoon came to a close, the echoes of joyful melodies could still be heard, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
The TCS and TAOS have a long-standing tradition of collaborating during the holiday season, bringing music and happiness to the senior community. Their performances serve as a reminder of the power of music to uplift spirits and create a sense of togetherness.
This delightful event not only filled the hearts of the Tiverton Senior Citizens with Christmas joy but also reminded everyone about the importance of sharing the holiday spirit with others. The dedication, talent, and generosity of the Tiverton Amateur Operatic Society have once again made a lasting impact on the community, providing a cherished memory for all.
