Acclaimed director James Cameron, famous for his blockbuster movie Titanic, has criticized OceanGate Expeditions following a recent submersible accident. The accident occurred during a deep-sea dive that resulted in fatalities.

In his criticism, Cameron highlighted several key issues with the design and construction of the Titan submersible. The director questioned the choice of material for the submersible’s construction, stating that carbon-fibre composites are not deep-sea friendly. Although they are stiffer and weigh much less than traditional materials like steel or aluminum, they are not suitable for submersion at great depths.

The recent accident, Cameron explained, was a result of the material’s inability to withstand the immense pressure at deep-sea levels. We’ve never had an accident like this. There’ve never been fatalities at this kind of depth and certainly no implosions, Cameron commented, according to The New York Times.

Cameron’s extensive experience in deep-sea dives, allows him to fully understand the dangers and challenges posed by such expeditions. The Oscar-winning director has previously made several solitary deep dives.

The director’s criticisms shed light on the need for better design and construction of deep-sea submersibles. These vessels must be built with materials that can withstand the intense pressures and harsh environments of the deep-sea.

The accident highlights the dangers of deep-sea exploration and raises important questions about the safety of modern submersible technology. Submersibles should be made with materials that can protect the safety of crew members, ensuring that these exciting expeditions are not marred by fatalities.

Although deep-sea exploration is a fascinating and exciting world, it is not without its risks. Cameron’s criticisms should be taken seriously, and further research should be conducted to create submersibles that can handle the intense pressures of deep-sea diving.
