Tinubu Misses Out on Petrol Subsidy Payment Despite Potential Benefit

President Bola Tinubu has stated that he will not support the continuation of petrol subsidy payments, as it would contribute to the economic destruction of the country. Speaking at a reception held by the Lagos state government, Tinubu emphasized the need to stop the bleeding of Nigeria’s finances through fuel subsidies and arbitrary exchange rates.

Tinubu acknowledged that he could have personally benefited from the petrol subsidy but firmly rejected the idea, stating that it was not why he was elected. He emphasized the importance of redirecting resources towards fulfilling the promises made during his campaign and meeting the obligations owed to Nigerians.

The president assured the public that his administration would introduce new and improved initiatives that would benefit people of all ages. He pledged to work closely with the national assembly and state governors to achieve the goals of his administration’s renewed hope agenda.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos expressed full support for the policies and programs of the current administration, emphasizing the crucial role of state governors in realizing the vision of a better Nigeria. Senate President Godswill Akpabio promised to collaborate with the executive branch to ensure that Nigerians enjoy the dividends of democracy. He commended the president’s actions in Lagos, stating that his decisions have served as a catalyst for the country’s development.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara applauded Tinubu’s efforts to reposition Nigeria’s economy, stating that the removal of the petrol subsidy and the reversal of arbitrary exchange rates were necessary steps in this direction. Former Lagos governor Raji Fashola also expressed continued support for the president, assuring him that they were always available to serve him.
