Tiger Woods has made the decision to withdraw from the upcoming US Open as he continues his recovery from severe leg injuries sustained in a car accident last year. The 15-time major champion had previously withdrawn from the PGA Championship in May. Woods took to Twitter to inform organizers that he requires additional time to strengthen his body for major championship golf, but he remains positive and is setting his sights on the British Open at St Andrews, which begins on July 14.

I’m excited to get back out there soon, Woods tweeted.

Earlier this year, the 46-year-old surprised everyone by returning to the Masters in April, following surgery to repair his right leg after the February 2021 crash. Despite the challenges, Woods managed to make the cut at Augusta National and at the PGA at Southern Hills, before withdrawing after the third round, marking the third-worst major round of his career.

Having won the US Open three times, with his most recent title coming in 2008 at Torrey Pines, Woods has shown grit and determination to triumph despite injuries in the past. He also expressed his intention to participate in the JP McManus Pro-am tournament in Ireland the week before the British Open, indicating his commitment to getting back into competitive golf.

St Andrews holds a special place in Woods’ heart, as he has won the Claret Jug twice there, in 2000 and 2005. However, he currently sits at 881st in the world rankings, a sharp decline from his peak, and fans around the world will be eagerly awaiting his return to top form.

There have been reports in US media suggesting that Woods declined a lucrative offer to join the Saudi-backed LIV Golf International Series, which is holding its inaugural event in England this week.

As Woods continues his recovery and preparation for the British Open, golf enthusiasts and fans alike can only hope to witness his skill and determination once again grace the fairways. Woods’ unwavering spirit and resilience have been an inspiration to many, and his return to major championship golf is eagerly anticipated.
