Security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and South Waziristan Districts have successfully eliminated three terrorists, according to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The operations carried out by the army troops resulted in the deaths of the terrorists in separate incidents.
In the Bagh area of Khyber district, a sniper from a terrorist group was killed during a fire exchange between the army and the terrorists. The ISPR stated that the troops effectively engaged the terrorists and managed to neutralize the threat. Along with the elimination of the sniper, weapons and ammunition were discovered at the scene.
In another encounter in the general area Gomal Zam, South Waziristan District, two terrorists were gunned down by the security forces. The ISPR revealed that the slain terrorists were actively involved in terrorist activities against security forces and were responsible for the killing of innocent civilians. The security forces are now conducting search operations in the area to ensure the elimination of any remaining terrorists.
The recent successes against terrorism come in the backdrop of a high number of terror attacks reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to statistics from the provincial police, there were 665 reported terror attacks in the region between June 18, 2022, and June 18, 2023. These attacks included 15 suicide bombings.
The North Waziristan tribal district alone witnessed 140 terror operations, which consisted of eight suicide bombings, 37 improvised explosive device (IED) and hand grenade explosions, five rocket attacks, and 85 fire incidents. The data reflects the challenges faced by security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in countering terrorism.
